Class Description

Do you have an interest in learning how to garden but aren’t certain where to start? Would you like to learn some tips and tricks from a pro-gardener who loves to use their grown goods for crafts, body care and more? Do plants make you feel a sense of happiness when you watch them swaying in the breeze? Well, you’ve come to the right place!

Craft your Dream Garden has a focus on cultivating a little patch of plant heaven for yourself that can also be practical and useful in a bunch of ways! From companion planting in planters for cramped spaces, to finding the right plants that call to you and how you go about caring for them, we’ve got you covered! This class illuminates on gardening as an act of self care and building something meaningful and unique just like you. Gardening has been an important piece in me finding out who I am and what brings me joy, and I feel it could do the same for you, too!

This class has a focus in helping young LGBTQAI+ people feel safe and empowered through the magic of tending to plants. Louis P.W., the instructor, is intent on making youths of all backgrounds feel welcome. In this class, we will be respecting all pronouns, and fostering an inclusive environment so that no one feels left out or ostracized for the wonderful person that they are.

FAQ

What does this camp look like?

While the primary focus is giving young people the tools to learn how to take care of plants, this is also a safe space for them to talk about what gardening means for them, what they’d like to do with their own personal gardens, and most importantly, an environment where they know they can come and be treated with respect/be themselves. So, there will be time allotted for plant talk, and time allotted for reflection!

Do I need a green thumb to join?

Of course not! A ‘green thumb’ is a skill you cultivate with practice and time. I have killed many number of plants in my time as a gardener (rest in peace), but now I can care or challenging plants and succeed in tricky germination projects/cloning projects. A lot of trial and error got me to where I am today, and if you’re willing to put in the time, you can have a ‘green thumb’, too!
