Secondary Language Arts Teacher
Hello! My name is Beth Makowski, and I am a secondary Language Arts teacher (6 - 12 grades). In my spare time, I love to garden, write, read, enjoy the outdoors, the beach (or anything summer!), animals of all kinds, helping others and giving back to my community, especially to young adults. And did I mention the beach? It is my happy place. I live in Colorado with my husband and three dogs.
Hello! This is my story.
I am a high school English teacher in Colorado. I taught for ten years at Venice High School in Los Angeles, CA, where I lived for 23 years. My husband and I moved to Colorado in 2010, and I am now in my 21st year of teaching at a small, alternative high school in Northern Colorado. Teaching is my passion, and it wasn’t until I had lived life for a while that I figured this out. I have had multiple careers before going back to school in 1996. I think my life experiences up until then prepared me for the classroom and the challenges of teaching. I am a student-centered teacher, and champion quality over quantity. My goal is for you to understand the concepts and skills we study. I also understand that our learning styles are as unique as we are, so I have multiple strategies I can use to make sure your understanding is clear, and your work rewarding.
Due to COVID, we have been faced with so many unknown stressors and challenges, and this includes with education. I want to make this experience as stressfree as possible: there will be no grades, no pressure to complete an assignment, and no judgment.
What there will be is lots of encouragement, positive feedback, support and guidance, and most of all FUN! I want my students to discover what their passions are, and hopefully, my class will provide that!
