Joel M. Karr. Licensed Architect
I am a natural born teacher. I have practiced architecture and designed buildings in six countries, on three continents for decades, but I have always had my hands in education or instruction in some form or another since college. From Instructor at Berkeley Extension, to teaching assistant, historic tour guide, architecture docent, to staff mentoring, continuing education challenges to the team, and travel teaching. I have always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with others.
Hello! I’m Joel, and here’s a little bit about me.
After 35 years in practice as a licensed architect, I am now working in a variety of consulting positions with a broad array of companies and industries. From modular housing, to corporate management, design, arts and crafts, teaching/mentoring, and architectural expert witness cases.
Having owned an architectural guide company giving walking tours of New York City and Los Angeles, I went on to give several architectural tours of Japan following my 5 years living there. I now handle inbound and outbound programs for art and architectural interest, in a wide variety of locations around the world for a few different travel companies, ranging from small group walking tours, to large corporate travel groups.
I’ve served as Adjunct Instructor at U.C. Berkeley Extension, teaching Business Practice for Designers, including Marketing, Financial and Business Planning, and all aspects of practice, operations, and other challenges to a small firm owner.
Principal level architecture leader, registered architect, managing, planning, developing and directing design goals and standards. My legacy firm was acquired by a Global Architecture and Design firm, NELSON Worldwide. I am now working in modular housing, product design, Expert witness consulting, corporate management, and teaching/mentoring. Current projects include a newly patented product development, building design consulting, and Architecture/Construction consulting.
